Word of the Bishop                     June 3

Conveyance

Last week the conveyance of a plot upon which a church and a house are located took place at the Corner House of the Suriname Aluminum Company (Suralco). The plot is located at Onverdacht/Billiton. Suralco gave the church this gift in commemoration of its 95th anniversary. The parish can build a community hall without having to worry about it being demolished by Suralco in case it had other plans for the area. The Diocese is now the owner of the plot.

Pilgrimage Batavia

The pilgrimage to Batavia was once again a success. This time the pilgrimage was held in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the beautification of Petrus Donders. Father Noordermeer led the mass.

Cadfo conference

The CADFO (Conference of Antilles Diocesan Fiscal Officers) was held at Grenada from May 21 until 26. vicar-general Karel Choennie and the manager, Prospère Nispel were sent to the conference. The people in charge of the financial affairs of the dioceses of the AEC assemble during the CADFO. Their goal is to discuss solutions to various financial problems. The conference was deemed a success.

Opening parking lot

On Friday, May 25 the official opening of the parking lot located on the premises of the Elisabeth 1 Primary School took place. Priests, visitors, parents and teachers can now park their cars there. It seems that everybody owns a vehicle nowadays so there was a huge demand for parking space. We hope that this parking lot will meet the demand. Mr. van Bastelaar and his team have done a magnificent job.

Confirmation Copieweg

On Saurday it was Copieweg’s turn for Confirmation. It was a beautiful service as the children did their utmost to make this event memorable. Their task as adult Christians is to spread the gospel. They will most certainly succeed in their quest.

Pentecost in  the Cathedral

The Pentecost celebrations were held in a packed Cathedral. God’s spirit flows however he wants it to flow. Many were touched by the mass. After the service many churchgoers stayed behind to engage in conversations thereby forming a unity. It was also inspiring to have so many people encourage me. It was very heartwarming.
